I have wonderful news! I have just gotten word that my help is needed in the land of the Danes. Some horrible monsters are terrorizing King Hrothgar's kingdom and his people. That may not sound like such great news to many people, but I am excited because of what I can accomplish and prove to these people and all others.
One of my life-long dreams is fame. If I were to accept and fulfill this quest, I would be more famous than any other man. I don't even know why I am questioning myself on this offer. I have fought so many other creatures and why would this one be any different?
I think I have just motivated myself to accept this quest so, I am going to let Hrothgar's messengers know right away. I am very confident I can make this journey, fight this creature and prevail over all others. Riches, prizes and celebrations are not even my major goal in this journey. My major goal is to show my bravery, strength and superiority over all others!
Well, I am off to round up my men and head for the land of the Danes. Lord help me!
Beowulf
"They said that of all the kings upon the earth he was the man most gracious and fair-minded, kindest to his people and keenest to win fame." (lines 3180-82)

Memorable Meeting
I have just arrived here at Hrothgar's kingdom. My men and I were greeted by a man mounted on a horse. He was a follower of Hrothgar that was there to protect the shores of Hrothgar's land. I was not suprised that he was there, but how is one man supposed to protect an entire shoreline?
Anyways, we talked to the warrior and explained to him that my men and I came as help to his King. He was a very understanding young man. He soon realized I was from royalty and knew of my uncle, who was also my King. Now knowing of my family background and my purpose, he knew of only one thing to do: take me to King Hrothgar himself.
We arrived where Hrothgar was at the time, and told the surrounding people that our business with Hrothgar was for the good of his people and kingdom. Our conversation with him was one to be truly remembered. Hrothgar was completely in favor of my generous offer to kill the monsters attacking his people and to protect them under all costs. I made a promise, and this ordeal will definitely be at the top of my to-do list.

Tonight... I Committed the Murder
I have been waiting for this moment to come for a long while now. All that is left is the blood and ground bones of that horrible monster. My journey to this land is finally complete, because tonight I murdered Grendel.
Grendel has been terrorizing the people of Denmark for too long and I decided I wanted to take action into my own hands. I went to Heorot Hall with fourteen of my bravest and fearless men to protect Hrothgar and his people. Although many of my men did not survive (may they rest in peace), Grendel will no longer be able to hurt anyone else.
The scene was very gory. Grendel came crashing into Heorot Hall, and was ready to hunt. Thank goodness, my plan of luring Grendel into the hall was finally in action. Grendel continued, drawn by my men, but he got what came to him. I had promised Hrothgar that I would need no weapon, so I dropped my sword and ran straight towards the monster. Even when some of my warriors came to my rescue as I battled Grendel, no one's sword could penetrate his evil skin. Finally, when it seemed like there was no end, I was able to tear off his arm, causing him to run home to his lair. Now, Grendel and all people will know who is the strongest and bravest of all, ME!

Celebrate Good Times, Come On!
Our celebration tonight was very swell, until an unexpected visitor decided to crash our "party". King Hrothgar decided that a celebration was in order for me for killing Grendel, the horrible monster attacking their country. So after the battle, all the surrounding people and I went to Heorot Hall to celebrate. Everything was going right as planned, then something came that no one expected.
Before we all knew it, there was wood, smoke and debris everywhere. Grendel's mother had come for revenge for her son's death, so decided to kill my most trusted warrior. I assumed that she fled right after because she knew that she had made her point. This actually made me want to get revenge on her.
I went with Hrothgar and my men to Grendel's mother's lair in search of her. I came to the conclusion that the only way I could kill her is if I jumped into her swampy lair in a battle to the deaths. As soon as I jumped into the swamp, the battle began. At first, Grendel's mother was winning, but after I realized my sword, Hrunting, could not kill her, I was able to grab the sword specially made to kill her and decapitated her.
Our celebration was able to continue, but this time on the death of two horrid monsters. I was given many gifts that I am most grateful for. I am only hoping my trouble with these monsters will soon be over.

I Am Dying
My life has been one served with great pleasure. I have just slayed a dragon that had been awaken when a slave stole a treasure of the dragons. Fury grew in the dragon and caused him to start searching for this thief. I have realized exactly what kind of warriors I have. As soon as I got wounded, my warriors fled. Only the most faithful of them stayed, Wiglaf. We fought hard and long to kill this dragon, but in the end good did not prevail.
I have just learned that my time with Wiglaf, trying to kill this dragon, was not a waste. The dragon has died, but unfortunately, it seems, I am not as lucky as I thought I was for killing this creature. I am trying to be cured by my people, but have just been informed that I have less time than I thought.
I know my time in my land will soon be no more, so I have a few wishes for my kingdom. After my death, I wish to be cremated and buried in Geatland. I also wanted to be buried with the dragon's treasure, so they cannot be distributed to the people of my kingdom.
Please God, protect my people from any terror that could come in my absence. I will return and when I do, everyone will know!
